Wikipedia defines affiliate marketing as a type of performance based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts.

Affiliate marketing allows you to earn commissions from promoting and selling products belonging to other people.
It is an easy way to earn money online as compared to other forms of online businesses available.
Large multinational companies such as Amazon do not sell their own products but make commissions selling products belonging to other people.
So how can you profit from affiliate marketing?
There are plenty of profitable niches. You only need to follow your passion, understand your market and build credibility.
Promote products you are passionate about, that you understand and have knowledge about or those that you have already used.
Only promote products that are relevant and useful depending on your website content and audience.
Be honest about the product you are promoting or you risk losing your audience.
Apply to a few popular affiliate networks only.
Only join top affiliate networks.
Avoid trying to sale too many products all at once.
Instead try and carry out product reviews, comparisons and give free advice and consultations.
If you are going to use paid ads ensure you know how much you are required to make in sales so as to earn a profit.
Affiliate marketing works in all countries and you need not register or promote your business locally.
You will need to put in a lot of effort to succeed in competitive but profitable niches.
You will need to put in a lot of effort if you are not a leader, influencer or authority in the field.
Evaluate and continuously assess the success of your promotions and product performances in the market.
With affiliate marketing you get to promote and sell products you are passionate about. This is why I always recommend affiliate marketing all the time. Other reasons why I recommend affiliate marketing include:
With affiliate marketing you do not need to have your own product.
You only promote products as an affiliate.
There is minimal risk in affiliate marketing since you only invest in a laptop, an autoresponder, a well designed website and landing page and tools such as drip to send out emails, blue host to build your website and Google analytics to carryout SEO.
Millions of prospects, leads and consumers can be found online.
You do not waste time recruiting and hiring personnel, writing sales messages and finding vendors.
You only have to pick any of the products out there and immediately start earning commissions when people purchase from your website.
There are no customer support hustles.
There are no worries about delivering products to customers.
You get to avoid much of the business costs such as paying of salaries and keeping inventory.
Affiliate marketing can be done in all product and service markets.
Affiliate marketing does not require much skill.
You only have to place links of products from other people on your website and earn a commission whenever visitors on your website purchase their products.
With affiliate marketing you get to choose which products you want to promote and sell.
