Understanding SEO

Updated: Nov 7, 2019

Traffic refers to anyone that gets on your blog.

Lead generation is the process of collecting phone numbers, email addresses and other relevant information of prospects that will later be your potential customers.

SEO is an important part of digital marketing that helps prospects find you and your business amongst hundreds and thousands of companies online. It refers to the process of making your blog easy to find and categorize.

Focus on the quality and quantity of your traffic.

It is so much easier to make a sale when you are passionate about what you do and understand your customers.

It is therefore important to talk to them and find out what their pain points, needs and requirements are. Find out the exact problems your customers may be experiencing.

Profile each customer and group them depending of similarities shared and then develop a customer avatar that represents your ideal customer.

Ensure you get feedback from your customers even after they make a purchase.

In SEO you will focus on the quality and quantity of your traffic. Let me briefly define these before we continue.

The quality of traffic – that is attracting visitors that are interested in your product to your blog.

The quantity of traffic – that is attracting more visitors to your blog.

Organic traffic – that is attracting traffic that you do not have to pay for.

Search engines assume that popular blogs contain relevant and valuable information required by users.

Search engines give the most relevant results to users. They do this by looking for the relevancy of content produced, the quality of your content, keywords used, domain names, titles, topics and headlines used, blog speeds, multiple device compatibility, internal linking, the blog’s authority, comments made of your content, user experiences, social networking and presence, purchases made on your blog, tagged images, ads and content duplication.

Here are ten steps on SEO content building:

Step one: Identify keywords by using results suggested by Google.

Step two: Analyse your list of keywords based on the number of searches, views and comments, social engagements and trends.

Step three: Select your best keyword.

Step four: Analyze the ranking results for your best keyword.

Step five: Analyse your media. This can be videos, pictures and audio.

Step six: Analyse your word count. It is important that you have a higher word count than that of your competitors.

Step seven: Develop a good blog structure that is simple to use.

Step eight: Develop your content. Blog about what you are passionate about, use simple case studies and stories, use simple grammar and short paragraphs, use catchy and creative headlines, subhead lines, titles and subtitles, remove and reduce distractions and be unique. Make use of your keyword, targeted word count and your competitor’s weak link. Develop content that is easy to read and understand.

Step nine: Optimize your content by putting your keyword often in your content, on the first sentence and titles and on your URL. Your page should be fast when loading and link your blog to authoritative, well established and trusted blogs.

Step ten: Keep analyzing and when necessary change your keyword.

You can make your content SEO friendly by also making use of images, cartoons and animations, making your content and blog shareable by visitors, writing lengthy article, adding buttons to view previous and next pages and by writing relevant, current, conclusive and high-quality content.

SEO is important because SEO allows for visibility since top positions on the search engine receive the most visitors, it is cost effective since it targets quality traffic and only users seeking your product, also with organic rankings you do not need to pay for ads on SEO, you get to bypass and move ahead of all your competitors, SEO makes your site more navigable for visitors and increases usability, SEO use results to more exposure for your blog and builds brand awareness, SEO helps build credibility to your brand and also SEO helps businesses bring in more customers and create new and long term business relationships.
